Why Lakeside

What Makes Us
Different.

Basement floors are the most moisture-prone surface we coat — which is exactly why we take every step of the process seriously. We've seen what happens when corners get cut. Our job is to make sure it doesn't happen to your floor.

01

MVB Vapor Barrier — Not Optional

Basements are high-risk for moisture vapor transmission. We test every slab. If your concrete shows elevated moisture readings, we install a moisture vapor barrier (MVB) before any coating goes down. This is the step most companies skip — and the reason their coatings bubble and peel within a year.

02

Built for Living Spaces

Our polyaspartic finish was designed for abuse. It handles gym equipment, road salt tracked in from upstairs, spilled detergent, rolling carts, and heavy foot traffic — while still looking great as a finished living space. Rec rooms, home gyms, laundry rooms, workshops — it doesn't care.

03

Two Days — Done Right

We bring the same Two-Day commitment to every basement as we do to every garage. Day 1 is all prep — diamond grinding, moisture testing, crack repair, base coat and flake. Day 2 is the final topcoat, sealed and cured. No one-day shortcuts here.

Common Uses

What Are You
Building Down There?

We coat basement floors for every kind of project. Here's how our finish holds up for the most common uses we see across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

Rec Room

A polished flake floor transforms a cold basement into a space you actually want to spend time in. Bright color blends reflect light, making the room feel larger. Easy to sweep, mop, and maintain — no grout lines, no carpet to replace.

Home Gym

Rubber gym flooring sits on top of our coating beautifully, or go bare for a cleaner look. The surface is slip-resistant, impact-absorbing to a degree, and stands up to dropped weights, sweat, and cleaning products without degrading.

Laundry Room

Laundry spaces are some of the highest-moisture areas in the home. Our MVB treatment and polyaspartic topcoat handle detergent spills, humidity, and dryer heat without absorbing odors or staining the way bare concrete does.

The Process

The Lakeside
Two-Day System.

Day 1

Concrete Inspection & Diamond Grind

We examine the slab condition, identify cracks and pits, and mechanically diamond-grind the full surface. This creates a porous, clean profile that the coating can bond to — not just sit on top of.

01
Day 1

Moisture Testing & MVB Treatment

Every basement slab is tested for moisture vapor transmission. If elevated readings are found, we apply a Moisture Vapor Barrier (MVB) — the critical step that prevents future bubbling, peeling, and delamination.

02
Day 1

Base Coat & Color Broadcast

Our polyaspartic base coat is applied across the prepared surface. While still wet, we broadcast your decorative color flakes directly into the coating — permanently locking them in before the floor cures overnight.

03
Day 2

Clear Topcoat & Final Finish

We return the next day, clean up excess flakes, and apply the high-solids UV-stable clear topcoat — sealing in the color and hardening the surface to its final, durable state. Your basement floor is done by end of day.

Our most popular basement finish. Dozens of color blends available — from bright neutrals that open up a rec room to bold dark mixes that fit a gym or workshop vibe. Slip-resistant, hides dust, and easy to clean.

Metallic

A high-gloss, liquid-metal look achieved with metallic pigment blended into the base coat. No two floors look exactly alike — the result is a truly one-of-a-kind basement floor with depth and movement. Perfect for a finished rec room or bar space.

Solid Color

Clean, modern, and low-maintenance. A single-color polyaspartic system gives a consistent finish that reads as a true "room" — great for laundry spaces, workshops, and utility areas where a streamlined look is the goal.

FAQ

Common
Questions.

Everything homeowners ask us before we show up to coat their basement. If you don't see your question here, just ask when you reach out for a quote.

Can you coat a basement floor with high moisture?

Yes — and this is exactly why we test every slab before we coat. Basements are the highest-risk environment for moisture vapor. If your concrete shows elevated readings, we install a moisture vapor barrier (MVB) treatment before applying the coating system. Skipping this step is why so many basement coatings bubble and peel.

How long does a basement floor coating take?

Our Two-Day system takes two days total. Day 1 is diamond grinding, moisture testing and MVB treatment if needed, crack repair, base coat, and flake broadcast. Day 2 we return to apply the final clear topcoat. You can typically use the space 24 hours after Day 2 is complete.

Can you coat over existing paint or sealer?

Yes — our diamond grinder removes old paint, sealers, and surface contaminants down to raw, porous concrete before we apply any coating. This mechanical prep is what creates a permanent bond rather than just sitting on top of the old surface.

Will the coating smell? Is it safe for an interior space?

Polyaspartic coatings have significantly lower VOCs than traditional epoxy. While there is a light odor during application and initial cure, it dissipates quickly. We recommend keeping the space ventilated during the process and for a few hours after Day 2.

What finishes work best for a home gym vs. a rec room?

Both spaces benefit from our full-broadcast flake system — it's slip-resistant, easy to clean, and hides dust between cleanings. For gym spaces, we often recommend a darker flake blend for a bold athletic look. For rec rooms, lighter neutrals make the space feel larger and brighter.

Do you move appliances or furniture?

We ask homeowners to clear the space before we arrive — appliances, shelving, stored items, etc. We handle masking and prep once we're on-site. If you need help planning how to stage the space, just ask when you book.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes — we offer a 100% satisfaction warranty on all basement floor coating installations. Iggy stands behind every floor we install.
